The Doctor

Den tilbakevendende legeskikkelsen er helsevesenets autoritet i Fleksnes-universet, og setter i gang flere av Marves episoder. Marve oppsøker legen for å gi blod («Blodgiveren»), og det er på legens ordre at han må slanke seg og trimme på fjellhytta («Villmarkens sønn»). Som en fast institusjonell motstander møter legens nøkterne diagnoser Marves oppblåste selvbilde gang på gang. En arketypisk birolle snarere enn én navngitt person.

The recurring doctor figure is the authority of the health-care system in the Fleksnes universe and sets several of Marve's episodes in motion. Marve seeks the doctor out to donate blood ("Blodgiveren"), and it is on the doctor's orders that he must slim down and exercise at the mountain cabin ("Villmarkens sønn"). As a fixed institutional foil, the doctor's sober diagnoses meet Marve's inflated self-image time and again. An archetypal supporting role rather than a single named person.
